The first instigator of my colourful and
unconventional art was my mother. On rainy days she used to spend hours entertaining
us by creating ever fresh and unusual pieces of “artwork”. She encouraged every
new idea and had the skill to turn even a messy failure into something special.
She also infused us with a love for nature – the earth worm being one of her
all time favourites. These two things together – the freedom to explore my creativity
and the eye of love for God’s creation – are the basis for the artwork I do today.
It was during my school years that I
discovered my special love for charcoals and soft pastels. I love the way the medium can be
flexible and I can work on it with fingers or most anything else – brushes,
paper stumps, tissues of all sorts, just to name a few. I love the way the colours blend and create fresh effects. Pastel chalks are just me.
I am a trained naturopath with the emphasis
on counselling supported by a good knowledge of herbs and some homoeopathy. My
art as you see it here is mostly self- taught, even though I confess to some
courses which I took over the years and a few books that I read. It is
important to me to allow the creative flow unhindered by any clichés.
Last and most importantly I wish to express
in my work and in my living the gifts which God has given me. I understand
those as something that was given to share and not to keep for myself. Stepping
out of my comfort zone and sharing my artwork is a result of this conviction. I
hope that a glimpse of God’s love which permeates all of his creation shines
through my work.
